We know we would not exist without the communities surrounding us. Your support enables us to do our work. Your determination to keep moving, inspire us to find solutions and raise awareness about the services we provide.
Our Kingston Community
We believe in giving back and have found a number of different ways to be involved with our community:
SPONSORSHIP –
- All-Inclusive Picnic at Providence Care (2017)
- KGH Orthopaedic Care Conference (2018, 2019)
- KidsInclusive Annual Run (2018, 2019)
- A dock for the Limestone Board & Boat Club
- The Paddle All (adaptive kayaking) races at the Carleton Place Canoe Club annual regatta
- Silent auction items for local community fundraisers
- In May 2019 we started working with Happy Tails Farm Sanctuary to manufacture and fit Peter, the lamb with a prosthetic hind leg. Peter was born with three legs, and brought to Happy Tails Farm Sanctuary where Carla and her staff gave him not only a safe place to live, but worked incredibly hard to support Peter through the process of learning to walk with a prosthesis.
AWARENESS –
- Inviting local decision makers to learn about our profession: MPP Sophie Kiwala visited our clinic (January 2018)
- Giving back by accepting donations and being involved in the sorting, cleaning and packing medical supplies for the Indigenous Medical Alliance, a project of TrueNorth Aid
TRAINING/EDUCATING –
- Training O&P technical and clinical students from George Brown College, Toronto and the BC Institute of Technology, Vancouver during their month-long placements
- Providing educational sessions to Queen’s Orthopaedic Surgery residents, as well as Physiatry residents from Providence Care Hospital
- Acting as examiners for Orthotics Prosthetics Canada‘s certification examination
- Assisting students at both the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies and the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at Queen’s University with their research projects
- Attending job fairs at Queen’s School of Kinesiology and Health Studies
ADDITIONAL SERVICES –
- In March 2019 we opened a bracing and health supplies store in Picton, ON in conjunction with Picton Physiotherapy: ORTHO HEALTH SUPPLIES
